The Business of Booze in Worcester County


The multi-million dollar alcohol industry is one of the biggest money-making industries on the Eastern Shore. For nearly eight decades, Worcester County has enjoyed a monopoly over that industry, meaning that all licensees in the county have had to purchase 100 percent of their beer, wine and liquor from the government. But that monopoly has now ended, and many people say it will bring dramatic changes both to local businesses and the county's revenues. Bryan Russo talks with local and state officials as well as a local bar owner to get a sense of the changing landscape.
